The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:

No Longer In Service

Officials with the Wesley Chapel Food Pantry recently announced they will no longer conduct monthly food pantry events.

Public Meetings

The Poland Fire Protection Territory Board will conduct a public meeting Jan. 25, Feb. 22, and March 28, at 7 p.m., each evening.

The meeting will take place at the Poland Fire Station, 3962 N. Bowling Green-Poland Rd., Poland.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend the meetings.


The Harmony Town Council will conduct its meetings on the first Tuesday of each month.

Meetings will take place at the Harmony Community Center at 7 p.m.

All are welcome to attend the meetings.

Story Hour!

Registration for Story Hour at the Brazil Public Library will begin Monday, and will be accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis for children ages 3-5.

Parents must have a valid library card and children must be potty trained.

Story Hour will begin Tuesday, Feb. 7, and Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 10:30 a.m.

No registrations will be accepted by phone.

Officially Open

Forest Park Golf Course will open Monday.

Season tickets are on sale and play will be permitted, weather permitting.

The hours will be 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Finance Board To Meet

The Clay County Board of Finance will conduct its annual meeting at 10:30 a.m., Monday, in the Commissioner's Courtroom of the Clay County Courthouse.

Special Meeting

F.O.E. Aerie 274 will conduct a special meeting at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 1, at its lodge, 122 E. National Ave., Brazil.

The meeting will discuss financial matters.

Soup Bowl Benefit

Tickets for the second Soup Bowl Benefit are on sale now. The event will take place at the Maryland Community Church, 4700 S. State Road 46, Terre Haute, from 5-7 p.m., Feb. 4.

Post Prom Meeting

The Northview High School Junior Class Post Prom committee will conduct a meeting Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m., in the school cafeteria.

Many volunteers are needed to plan the event.

Open House

Habitat for Humanity of Clay County recently announced it will conduct a dedication ceremony and open house for the Mary Ann Hofmann family home.

The event will take place from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 12, at 518 E. Ridge St., Brazil.

The community is invited to attend and tour the home.

Refreshments will be served following the dedication ceremony.

Gardener Courses

Classes for the Purdue Master Gardeners course will begin Feb. 13, and conclude May 14.

Cost for the program is $115, which covers course materials, speakers and a copy of the New Purdue Master Gardener book that was recently created.

The deadline to register is Jan. 31, at 4 p.m.


The Clay County Boy Scout Troop 101 will conduct a Pancake Breakfast and Winter Bazaar from 6:30-10 a.m., Feb. 18.

The event will take place at the Brazil National Guard Armory, 970 W. Craig Ave., Brazil.

Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children (5-under).

All funds from the event will be used to send Scouts from Troop 101 to summer camp.


The Clay County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a Cornhole Tournament Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Brazil Elks Lodge.

Poetry Competition

Wabash Valley Outdoor Sculpture Collection and Arts Illiana recently announced it is accepting entries for the 2012 Max Ehrmann Poetry Competition.

Entries must be mailed or delivered by Feb. 24.

Completed entry forms and poems should be delivered or mailed to Art Spaces, Inc., 669 Ohio St., Terre Haute, Ind., 47807.
