He was born July 8, 1925, in Fonda, Iowa, as the son of Robert and Zella Rice Freeman.
During World War II, he served in the United States Coast Guard.
He worked as a carpenter until his retirement.
He married Norma Jean Moore Aug. 26, 1948.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Brazil.
He had been a member of the Clay City American Legion Post, and he enjoyed fishing and camping with the Neighborly Chowhounds and the Active Baptist Campers groups.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Quentin Freeman, sisters Freida Cole, Shirley and Orpha Derry and granddaughter Jennifer Sutton.
He is survived by his wife Norma Jean, son Joseph Freeman, daughters Kathy Ludwig and Judy Freeman, 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, brothers Kermit, Arnim and LeRoy Freeman, several nieces and nephews and other extended family.
Visitation will be noon-2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Moore Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home, with Pastor Bob Sampson officiating.
