NHS, NCMS perform well in first contest

SPENCER -- On Saturday, the Northview High School Winter Guard competed in its first contest of the 2012 season at Owen Valley High School.

As the only school in World Class, Northview finished with a score of 68.20.

North Clay Middle School also competed in the contest. Taking part in Cadet Class, North Clay earned a Gold rating, while Martinsville East earned Silver.

Groups must score a 50 or above to earn a Gold rating.

In Regional A competition, Orleans, Cloverdale and North Putnam earned Silver ratings, while Centerville received a Bronze.

In Class A action, Henryville and Terre Haute North each earned Gold ratings. Owen Valley, Crawfordsville, Terre Haute South, Bedford-North Lawrence, Indian Creek, Martinsville, Paoli, West Vigo and Heritage Hills all earned Silver ratings, while Pike Central received a Bronze.

In addition, Scottsburg won the Class A competition with a score of 69.40.

Groups are judged on equipment, movement, ensemble, general effect and timing and penalty.

Northview will take part in a contest at Terre Haute South Saturday, Feb. 4.

Taking part in the World Class Division, the Knights are scheduled to compete at 8:30 p.m., with Avon performing at 8:20.

Clay City will open its 2012 season Saturday, Feb. 4, also at Terre Haute South, competing in the Regional A Division.

North Clay's next competition will be Saturday, Feb. 11, at New Palestine High School.
