Fischer invited nutritionist Stephanie Schopmeyer to the school Tuesday to discuss the importance of nutrition with her students and the students in Jennifer Gregg's third-grade class.
"We're just trying to do anything we can to help the children," Fischer said.
Schopmeyer, who lives in Brazil, provided a Powerpoint presentation on the value of nutrition and how it affects the body. The presentation also discussed the importance of energy.
You want to make sure you eat good food," Schopmeyer told the students, "and your body will be healthier."
Following the presentation, students in both classes were offered healthy snacks, including celery sticks, orange and apple wedges, kiwi and strawberries, as well as peanut butter, cheese and crackers.
The students also had an opportunity to ask Schopmeyer questions following the snack break.
"(Fischer) contacted me because she was worried about (the students') nutritional intake," Schopmeyer said.
Tuesday's presentation was the first Schopmeyer had given to students.
Students continue with ISTEP+ testing March 5.
