Melvin E. Turner, 100, Brazil, passed away at Cloverleaf Health Care, Knightsville, Feb. 4, 2012.
Melvin was born in Hoosierville, Ind., Nov. 23, 1911, the son of Samuel and Anna Turner.
Melvin graduated from Brazil High School with the class of 1929.
After high school, Melvin worked in Chicago at Western Electric. He also worked for the New York Rail Road Big Four. Melvin began working for Public Service Indiana in 1940, retiring in 1974.
Melvin was a loyal member of Cross Lane Community Church in Terre Haute.
Melvin enjoyed gardening and woodcarving.
Melvin was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Mae Turner.
He is survived by his son Melvin T. Turner (Jeannine), Anderson, daughters Anna Reed (Don), Nashville, Ind., and Loraine Decker (Bob), Brazil, eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at French Funeral Home, Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Dick McShanog officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home, Tuesday, from 11 a.m., until time of services.
