She was born Dec. 22, 1937, in Indianapolis to the late Shirley F. and Beulah Elizabeth (Huddleston) Payton.
Betty was a homemaker most of her life. She also worked for Arco Springs in Indianapolis and Camp Atterbury.
She was an ordained minister.
She had attended several churches and had ministered her own non-denominational church in Indianapolis.
Throughout her life she enjoyed rolling skating, bowling, square dancing with her late husband and shooting guns and bow and arrows.
She also enjoyed crocheting, ceramics and working puzzles.
On April 1, 1956, she married Charles A. Moore; he preceded her in death Nov. 29, 1996.
She leaves behind her loving family of two sons Terry Moore (companion, Carol), Bloomington, Ind., and Robert Moore, Indianapolis, two daughters Shirley Hale (husband, Donald) and Christine Hartz, both of Indianapolis, two brothers William "Bill" Payton (companion, Suzie), Martinsville, and Charles Francis Payton, South Bend.
Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter Cynthia Moore and one brother Dale Payton.
Friends are invited to visit on Thursday, Feb. 9, from 4-8 p.m., and Friday, Feb. 10, from 10-11 a.m., at Neal & Summers Funeral & Cremation Center, Martinsville.
A celebration of life service will begin at 11 a.m., Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Centennial Cemetery in Martinsville.
