George was born Aug. 28, 1921, the son of George and Anna (Syster) Edwards.
He enlisted with the United States Army in 1942 and served three years in European tour. Some of the decorations he received were: American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal World War II.
Upon returning he married Elmora Maxine Hayes on Dec. 24, 1945. George worked for the Plainfield Correctional Facility, where he retired in 1984.
George was an avid gardener, loved being in the outdoors and especially spending time with his cat and bird.
George was preceded in death by his parents George and Anna, sister Hannah Reba, and brother William Edwards.
He is survived by his wife Elmora Maxine, son Jack Edwards, daughter Harriet Guinther and husband James, Staunton, grandson Michael Long and wife Sarah, Brazil, Darin Long and wife Christine, Nolensville, Tenn., JD Edwards, Brazil, Brad Edwards, Brazil, granddaughter Melissa Kline and husband Billy, Brazil, great grandchildren Corbin, Nick, Evan, Allie, Nathan, Drew, Thomas, Devon, Shelby, Bradley, Carson and Lauren, great-great-grandchildren Kaydence and Nolan.
Service will be Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at 7 p.m.
Visitation will be at 4 p.m., until the time of service.
