Boil order to possibly lift Thursday afternoon

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

According to Brazil Water Superintendent Jake Raubach, a portion of the city is still under a boil order, but the water office should have more information Thursday after a sample taken today is tested.

"We conducted the second set of samples this morning," Raubach said "I got done delivering the samples to the state board of health in Indianapolis around noon today."

Raubach added he won't hear back with results until late afternoon Thursday, but at that time, he is optimistic the boil order will be lifted.

Raubach said the protocol calls for 24-hour back-to-back tests, and after testing on Tuesday, Wednesday's test is the last required.

The area was put under a boil order Monday, after a water line was damaged.

"The boil advisory is just for people from County Road 200 to 300 on the south side of State Road 340, and then everybody from CR 300 West, a little past 425," Raubach said Monday, "so all those people on both sides of the road (are under a boil order)."

Raubach added Northview High School and North Clay Middle School are exempt from the boil order because both are on a separate line.

Raubach said the boil order stems from a line that was cut into by a resident doing personal work.

"(The person) had cut into a 4-inch water line that runs on the south side of 340," Raubach said. "Somebody was doing some personal work out there, and we had to shut the line down (because) there are several people on that line out there, and we didn't feel comfortable not having a boil order."

Raubach said his office has been working hard to lift the boil order.

"(We are) working toward getting (those affected) off the boil advisory," Raubach said. "The men (who worked on the broken line) did a very good job, and had it back up pretty quick."

The Brazil Times will continue to provide updates.
