'Art Affair on the Square' scheduled

Thursday, March 1, 2012

ROCKVILLE -- Those looking for "pure enjoyment," in addition to first-class shopping should check out "Art Affair on the Square," Saturday, June 23, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Sponsored by the Covered Bridge Art Association, the event will take place on the historic Rockville courthouse square in Parke County.

The second Art Affair will include such juried works as pottery, enamel, glass, jewelry, metal, wood, mixed media, oil, watercolor, photograph, printmaking, sculpture, textile, fiber and other skilled crafts.

There will be something for everyone.

The Art Affair will also include a Children's Art Area. Some of the activities will include handprint flag, painting small ceramic pieces, face painting from pre-selected patterns, side walk chalk art, recycled jewelry -- both bracelets and necklaces -- and handprint flowers.

Musicians from a wide variety of musical backgrounds will provide live entertainment on the square the entire day, and several county greenhouses are expected to offer a wide array of plants, both annuals and perennials, and an unusual variety of herbs as well.

The shops on the square will be open, and antique shops in the country will be available.

Food will be offered at local restaurants, bars and from vendors on the square.

A pancake breakfast will be severed from 8-10 a.m., for early morning shoppers and vendors.

In addition, there will be an Antique Tractor Tour of Parke County, a family bike ride ending on the square -- sponsored by Covered Bridge Gateway Trails Association -- the play, "Fiddler on the Roof," which will take place at the historic Ritz Theatre by Parke Players, and the Village Market will be open at the Depot from 8:30 a.m.-noon.
