VIGO COUNTY -- Traffic is back to normal on United States 40 following a seven-vehicle accident.

At approximately 6:50 a.m., Tuesday, officials were notified of the accident, which took place near the Vigo-Clay county line.

Vigo County Sheriff's Department Lt. Brian DeHart told The Brazil Times there were two different accidents in the area.

The first accident involved a van and passenger car. DeHart said the van was heading east into Clay County and the passenger vehicle was going west into Terre Haute.

The second accident took place after drivers had stopped their vehicles on the roadway while coming up to the first accident.

DeHart said a vehicle hit another, causing a chain reaction.

DeHart said one person was injured and taken to Union Hospital. However, he said there were no serious injuries.

Names of those involved in the accident have yet to be released.

DeHart added the accident is still under investigation.

Officials with the Clay County Sheriff's Department and Posey Township Volunteer Fire Department were on scene helping divert traffic from the area.

Eastbound traffic was diverted to Taber Town Road (in Vigo County) while westbound traffic was diverted to County Road 700 West (in Clay County) -- or Miami Gardens Road.

Traffic was flowing on U.S. 40 by 8:20 a.m.
