Super Bowl teams place fifth

The Northview High School Academic Super Bowl teams competed Tuesday evening at the Brown County/Western Indiana Conference Invitational.

The Knights finished tied for fifth out of 26 teams in the overall team competition, collecting 78 points when combining the scores of the six different subject areas.

Columbus East won the team competition with 109 points out of a maximum 150 possible points, followed by Cloverdale with 89, Columbus North A with 85, Columbus North B with 82, and the Knights and Martinsville with 78 each.

Northview was led by its social studies team consisting of Evan Pierce, Conner Ringo, Levi Allen, Minh Tong and Jonathon Burns. The team placed third overall and won the WIC championship for the second-straight year.

The Knights also placed third overall in English, taking second in the WIC. Team members were Pierce, Ringo and Allen.

Both teams are coached by Joey Bennett.

Northview came in seventh overall and second in the WIC in math. Team members were Shad Brattain, Jacob Booker and Burns.

The Knights placed 10th overall and fourth in the WIC in fine arts, led by team members Andrea Schultz and Miranda Archer.

Northview recorded nine points in science from team members Brattain, Booker and Dustin Stevenson.

In the interdisciplinary round, containing questions from all five areas, the Knights were ninth overall and second in the WIC. Team members were Booker, Brattain, Pierce and Schultz.

David Unsinger coaches the math team, while Cole Schroer coaches the science team and Rayna White coaches the fine arts team.

Northview will compete again March 15 in the Terre Haute North Invitational.

Earlier this year, Northview competed in the WIC Quiz Bowl at Sullivan.

The Knights won the junior varsity competition with team members Tong, Burns and Ringo.

The varsity team of Pierce, Brattain and Booker placed second.
