Dinner had just been finished and Merry brought in some great new toys for James David to play with.
He now has a small drum set and a vacuum cleaner of his own.
James David banged on the drums, you guessed it, all day.
Well, not really. But he did hit the drums for a while.
But Indiana University was playing Virginia Commonwealth and it was a great game.
If you don't mind a few turnovers here and there.
VCU took a nine-point lead late in the contest, but the Hoosiers stormed back and found a way to win the game, advancing to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2002.
When the final buzzer sounded, I jumped off the couch and started dancing.
James David was preparing for an evening of slumber in Merry's lap.
However, when I jumped up, he was suddenly excited.
I ran over to the chair, picked him up and he was in such a great mood.
We danced for a few seconds and I placed him back in Merry's lap.
I haven't been excited about basketball for quite some time.
The Hoosier and Indiana Pacers have had plenty of down seasons.
But both teams are really looking up this season.
I did have IU beating VCU in the second round, but my bracket is practically gone.
I have Kentucky winning it all this season, meaning I picked against IU.
I hated doing it, but the Wildcats are loaded. This Sweet 16 game will sure be fun to watch.
I'm certain most people's brackets went down the tubes when Missouri and Duke lost. The Duke loss hurt mine.
But it really doesn't matter.
Indiana basketball is back, thanks to Tom Crean and staff.
Thank you, IU, for allowing me the dance with my son.
