OWEN COUNTY -- An Owen County teenager died after a single-vehicle accident late Sunday.
According to information provided by the Owen County Sheriff's Department, officials received a 911 call at approximately 8:19 p.m., in reference to an accident on State Road 246 near Bixler Road.
Upon arrival, officials found the only occupant of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer, Nicole McGee, 18, Spencer, partially ejected from the vehicle.
After being extricated by members of the Patricksburg Volunteer Fire Department and Owen County Rescue Team, attempts were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
During a reconstruction of the scene, it was believed McGee was traveling eastbound on SR 246. While coming through a corner, the vehicle went off the south side of the roadway.
McGee allegedly over-corrected, causing the vehicle to go across the westbound lane before sliding sideways.
The vehicle then began to roll before striking a tree on the driver's side.
Speed was believed to have been a factor in the accident.
Other agencies responding to the scene included Indiana State Police, Owen County EMS, and Air Evac.
