The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:


The Brazil City Fire Department is currently accepting applications for the position of firefighter.

Application packets may be picked up at the fire department from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

All completed applications must be turned into the office of the Fire Chief no later than 5 p.m., April 27.

Applicants must be 18-years-old and less than 36-years-old, and have a high school diploma or proof of a G.E.D. equivalent, a valid driver's license and the ability to pass the agility, aptitude, physical and mental testing requirements.

Cemetery Notice

Officials with the City of Brazil are asking all to remove all winter decorations from Cottage Hill, Restlawn and other cemeteries by Friday, April 6.

The Fraternal Order of Police Ladies Auxiliary will host a fundraising luncheon at the Clay County Courthouse Monday, April 2, at 11 a.m.

All funds raised will benefit the new K9 officer for the Brazil Police Department.

The auxiliary will offer soup, sandwiches, drinks and desserts.

Cost for a soup, sandwich and drink will be $5, while cost for soup or sandwich will be $3. In addition, desserts and drinks by themselves will cost $1.

Meeting Scheduled

The Clay County Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m., Monday, April 2, in the lower level of the museum.

The guest speaker will be Gary Morris, President and Chief Operation Officer of Clabber Girl, Terre Haute. He will conduct a presentation about the history of the business.

Diabetes Class

St. Vincent Clay Hospital has announced the next class on Diabetes Education will begin in April.

"What You Should Know About Type 2 Diabetes," will begin Tuesday, April 3, from 2-4 p.m.

The class will take place on the first Tuesday of each month. Class size is limited.

Those interested in attending should RSVP to 442-2740.

Classes are free of charge.

'The Promise'

Members of First Christian Church, 1875 W. United States 40, Brazil, will present "The Promise," Friday, April 6, Saturday, April 7, and Sunday, April 8.

Showtimes are 7 p.m., April 6 and April 7, and 6 p.m., April 8.

Meeting SEet

The Clay County Board of Health will conduct its quarterly meeting Monday, April 9, at noon.

The meeting will take place in the conference room located in the lower level of the Medical Office Building, 1214 E. National Ave., Brazil.

Heavy Trash Pickup

The City of Brazil Sanitation Department has announced its heavy trash pickup for the month of April.

The department has scheduled the following for pickup:

* April 13 -- For the regular Monday route,

* April 20 -- For the regular Tuesday route, and

* April 27 -- For the regular Wednesday and Thursday route.

The department stated it will not pick up batteries, roofing, siding, tires, building materials, televisions or computers.

Fish Fry

The Habitat for Humanity of Clay County Board of Directors will conduct a Jonah Fish Fry and silent auction April 14, from 4-7 p.m., at the Brazil National Guard Armory.

Board members will be selling tickets in advance for a savings of 50 cents per ticket.

At the door, cost to attend will be $8 for adults and $5 for children ages 5-10. Children under 5 will be admitted free.

Desserts will also be available at a cost of $1.
