Award ceremony for poetry competition set

Tuesday, April 3, 2012

TERRE HAUTE -- Wabash Valley Outdoor Sculpture Collection and Arts Illiana recently announced a public award ceremony to honor the winners of the 2012 Max Ehrmann Poetry Competition, sponsored by St. Mary-of-the-Woods College and other universities and businesses.

The event will take place in the Rooney Library at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, Thursday, April 12, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Winning poems will be read during the event.

Individuals living, working or attending school in Clay, Parke, Putnam, Sullivan, Vermillion and Vigo counties were encouraged to submit poems in three categories: Poetry inspired by a work of art, poetry inspired by trees or other "green" things and poetry inspired by city life or an urban environment. A total of 503 poems were received from 386 people and the competition was adjudicated by Indiana poets Peter Bethanis, Micah Long and Karen Kovacik.

From April 7-30, winning entries for the poetry competition will be exhibited at the Vigo County Public Library.
