The second MDwise Community Baby Shower will take place Thursday, June 21, at the YMCA of Clay County, 225 E. Kruzan St., Brazil.
The event will begin at noon and conclude at 2 p.m.
The shower is open to all local pregnant women.
MDwise representative Jamie Cartwright told The Brazil Times last year the event received support from 11 local agencies and 15 pregnant women took part.
"We gave away more than 20 prizes, including a car seat with base, a baby bed, gift baskets, diaper bags, a bouncy seat and the list goes on," Cartwright said. "Each mother left with at least one item, and some left with multiple items."
Like last year, area agencies are asked to take part. Those wishing to participate will be asked to donate one baby related item as a giveaway. Currently, MDwise is searching for agencies to participate.
"Each agency provides information about their services, and often we find that the new mothers are unaware of all the wonderful resources at their fingertips," Cartwright said.
Cartwright added multiple activities will take place during the baby shower.
"At the shower, we play typical baby shower games, such as baby Bingo, and perhaps even some bottle bowling," she said.
The shower will provide information for pregnant women ranging in topics from nutrition to safe sleep to Medicaid coverage.
"MDwise baby showers are a statewide initiative developed to educate and celebrate new mothers in our communities," Cartwright said.
Food will also be provided.
"MDwise is committed to helping new moms take care of their bodies and their unborn babies, and we welcome the opportunity to provide all of these resources to these women in a fun environment," Cartwright said.
Agencies interested in taking part should reply to Becky Klingele at firstname.lastname@example.org with an RSVP and an indication as to what items they are donating.
