MONTGOMERY -- The Clay City Eels got some clutch hitting over the weekend, which propelled them to their second Barr-Reeve Invitational championship.

The Eels opened the tourney by scoring two times in the sixth inning to solidify a 3-0 victory against Barr-Reeve.

Madison Booe drilled an RBI triple in the third inning to give Clay City a lead it wouldn't relinquish. Booe and Mariah Walton put the final touches on the win by smacking back-to-back doubles in the sixth inning to set up Emmie Kittle for an RBI single.

Shaya Stevenson had two hits and scored a run while Booe had a pair of extra base hits and drove in a run for the Eels. Both Kittle and Abby Reed had base hits in the victory. Whitney Jeffers pitched a complete game shutout with four strikeouts and no walks while allowing five hits.

In the second game, Clay City jumped on top early as Booe ripped a two-run home run to drive in Stevenson, who had walked to open the game. The Eels extended their lead in the second inning as Walton cleared the bases with a three-run double to score Ali Souder, Stevenson and Booe.

Clay City held off a late rally by North Posey, which scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Eels captured a 6-5 victory that gave the Eels their first win ever against the Vikings.

Stevenson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Booe drove home two runs with a pair of hits and two RBI. Walton had three RBI with a 2-for-4 day at the plate and Reed had a hit, stole a base and scored a run. Rachael Cottrell, Samantha Dyer and Souder each were 1-for-3 at the plate with Souder gaining an RBI.

The Eels (3-1 overall) travel to Shakamak this evening at 5 p.m.
