CLAY CITY -- In a conference match-up on Monday night at Clay City, the Eels weren't fazed by falling behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning. The team simply had to wait for Mariah Walton.

The freshman went 3-for-4 at the plate, doubled and drove in six of the Eels' seven runs as Clay City improved to 2-0 in the Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference with a 7-2 victory against White River Valley.

Sophomore pitcher Whitney Jeffers threw a five-hitter for the Eels, who also got two hits from Shaya Stevenson and Ali Souder. Samantha Dyer added one base hit along with Emmie Kittle with Madison Booe scoring twice as well as Kittle. Both Walton and Stevenson had two stolen bases in the win.

The Eels (5-3 overall, 2-0 SWIAC) were slated to face Riverton Parke on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Northview golf

CLOVERDALE -- The Northview boys' golf team scored a victory at Clover Meadows on Monday night as Jacqueb Taylor recorded a 41 for medalist honors and Larry Knight added a 42. The Knights tallied a team total of 173 to top the Clovers by 14 strokes (173 to 187).

Dylan Nesty added a 43 and Keegan Roembke carded a 47 to complete the Knights' team score.

Northview softball

PLAINFIELD -- The Northview softball team picked up a 3-2 victory over potential sectional foe Plainfield on Monday night.

The Knights got two hits and two runs scored from freshman Whitney Halfhill and Taylor Carter doubled in a run and gained the pitching victory. Alyssa Conrad drove in a run and had two hits in the win. Kylie McKee also had a base hit for the Knights.

The Knights (9-3 overall) hosted Sullivan on Tuesday evening at 5 p.m.

Northview tennis


Northview's Haley Leach battled Terre Haute North's Anna Potter at No. 1 singles on Monday night before dropping a 6-1, 6-1 decision as the Patriots won a 5-0 match versus the Knights.

Trisha Cox and Jenna Smith won four games in their No. 1 doubles match against Lynsey Stoick and Kim Zigler in a 6-3, 6-1 loss.

In the JV match, Terre Haute North claimed a 9-1 decision.
