During the Clay County Commissioner special meeting Tuesday, the commissioners discussed two different quotes from Pell's Roofing and Siding for the new roof of the highway garage building.
The difference between the quotes was .5 inches of insulation. One quote included 1-inch of insulation, while the other had 1.5 inches.
The commissioners were told the 1.5-inch insulation would make a large difference in the heating costs and would eventually pay for the $1,300 difference due to the savings in energy.
The roof will have a 15-year warranty, including replacing the roof or inside materials damaged due to leaks.
"Since we're looking at a long-term investment here, I'm thinking it would be advisable to go with the 1.5 inches, instead of the 1 inch since there is only a difference of $1,300," Commissioner Paul Sinders said. "I think over a period of 15 or 20 years, hopefully that will more than pay for itself."
The commissioners approved and signed the contract with Pell's for 1.5 inches of insulation for a total of $33,900.
The next meeting will be Monday, May 7, at 9 a.m., in the Commissioner's Courtroom at the Clay County Courthouse.
