Associate Chapter of Tri Kappa
The Associate Chapter of Tri Kappa met Monday, April 2, at the First United Methodist Church.
After a delicious meal of turkey/ham wraps, salads and sundaes, the program was presented by Kirk Freeman, educational consultant.
He commented the United States is losing its edge in creativity and problem solving largely because of the current huge emphasis on test scores.
There has also been a loss of communication and interpersonal relations because of the constant use of social media instead of interacting with others in person.
He then led the group in an exercise to illustrate how our society is pushing competition when we need more collaboration.
President Jacque Reberger called the meeting to order with the usual song and verse. Roll call was answered by 17 members and one guest.
The minutes of the March meeting were read and approved. This led to a discussion of the collection of items such as Box Tops for Education, Campbell Soup labels and Pepsi caps. Marsha Wyndham volunteered to be the distribution center for these items.
Under old business, it was decided to support the Humane Shelter with our donations of items at each meeting. The hostesses filled two Easter baskets for our Serving On The Streets (S.O.S.) youth. We will be restructuring our literacy project in the future.
Under new business, it was noted all officers serve for a two-year term so there is no need for a nominating committee this year.
Associates were encouraged to support the active chapter in Basket Bingo Thursday, April 19, at Kennedy Crossing Center. Tickets are $15.
At the next meeting, we will discuss a meeting place and food provider for next year.
Secret Sister gifts were won by Kathy Witham and Dabren Clark.
Hostesses for tonight were Julie Houston, Celeste Thomas, Delores Thomas and Kathy Witham.
The next meeting will be Monday, May 7. Hostesses will be Veda Bussing, Marsha Wyndham, Dabren Clark, Rita Robertson and Muriel Glidden.
