He passed away at his residence in Coal Bluff on Tuesday, April 17, 2012.
He married Rosemary Richey on Sept. 18, 1940. She survives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and sisters Mattie Hatfield, Emma McConnell, Bob Dickerson, John Dickerson, Goldie Brock, Ed Dickerson and Charlie Dickerson. George was also preceded in death by three sons Dan Wesley in 1951, Clifford Daniel in 1998 and George Arthur in January 2012, and one daughter Linda Dickerson.
George served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a seaman first class on a battleship outside of Pearl Harbor.
George retired from Terre Haute Gas Company in 1984, after 40 years of service.
George is survived by his son Hubert Dickerson, wife Jonnie and daughter Angel Dickerson, along with daughters-in-law Wanda S. Dickerson and Wanda Dean Dickerson.
George is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and grandchildren-in-law.
After retiring George would walk to his sons' homes first thing in the morning for coffee and visiting before they went to work.
He was the family alarm clock.
George loved to fish and watch Western movies.
He was happiest when fishing or tinkering around in his garage.
George was grandpa to many kids. He loved to spend time with all his children.
His eyes would light up when any child would come through the door.
Per his wishes, cremation is scheduled with a memorial service to take place at a later date.
Mattox-Wood Funeral Home and crematory was entrusted with the arrangements.
