Northview netters wins tight battle with South Vermillion

The Northview girls' tennis team won its second close tennis match of the week by topping visiting South Vermillion on Thursday by a 3-2 score. The win comes two days after the Knights defeated Rockville on the road by the same margin.

The Knights won a pair of singles matches as Haley Leach claimed a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles against the Wildcats' Erin Holbert. Nicole Linton was a winner for Northview at No. 2 singles by a 6-2, 6-3 score against South Vermillion's Taylor Spires.

In doubles play, Jenna Smith and Trisha Cox teamed for a win at No. 1 over Ashley Farrington and Michelle Pepelea of the Wildcats, 6-0, 6-1.

South Vermillion was able to win the No. 3 singles match as Marissa Vandergriff edged Kelsey Oehler, 6-4, 6-3 and in doubles, the Knights' Kaysia Reberger and Shelby Timberman were edged in a 7-5, 6-3 match.

Northview's junior varsity cruised to an 8-1 win.

The Knights return to the court at home against Owen Valley on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
