The annual Clay County Lincoln Day Dinner has been scheduled for Monday, April 30.

The event will take place at Calvary Baptist Church, 526 S. Murphy Ave., Brazil. Social time has been set to start at 6 p.m., with dinner at 6:30.

This year's guest speakers will be Indiana 8th District Representative Larry Bucshon and 8th District candidate Kristi Risk.

"Kristi will speak first and Larry will speak second," Clay County Republican Party Chair Jodi Lohrman told The Brazil Times. "We didn't want to get into a debate atmosphere at a Lincoln Day Dinner. It also looks like both will stay around so people can talk to them one-on-one."

Lohrman said Harmony Diner will cater the meal at the event. The meal will consist of choice of pork or chicken, potatoes, corn, green beans, salad, beer bread and cake. Drinks will include coffee, tea, lemonade and water.

Lohrman added candidates were invited to bring yard signs for people to take to their homes.

"Since we don't have a headquarters for the primary, this is a good opportunity for people to pick up their signs," she said.

Cost to attend is $25 per person or $45 per couple and $10 per students.

Tickets may be purchased at the door and RSVPs may be made by calling Lohrman at 812-201-8704 or e-mailing ajjsl@frontier.com.

Recent Lincoln Day Dinner speakers have included former Clay County Circuit Court Judge Ernest Yelton, former Clay County Sheriff Rob Carter, former Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita, State Republican House Leader Brian Bosma, Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller, District 37 State Senator Richard Bray, Risk and former President Abraham Lincoln (portrayed by T.J. Sneddon).

While its important that Republicans are able to get together and break bread...the most important thing is that they hold their elected officials accountable for their adherence to the Party Platform. I found a particular interest in Richard Lugar's record of increasing the size and scope of government with votes for TARP, 15 debt ceiling increases totaling 7 trillion dollars and sponsoring the Dream Act. reference: www.lugarrecord.com
