Two area men were arrested Thursday in connection to a possible burglary attempt.

Mathew Brown, 21, Staunton, and Alexander J. Bruer, 19, Turner, Ind., were arrested for the preliminary charges of Burglary, Possession of stolen property and Trespassing.

According to officials with the Clay County Sheriff's Department, the investigation began Monday, April 23, when a Staunton resident reported their residence had been burglarized during the night.

Information led detectives to Brown's residence, Staunton, where they recovered several items that had been stolen from the victim's residence.

Brown was not at home at the time, but was later located during a traffic stop and detained for questioning.

According to officials, the investigation led detectives to Bruer when it was reported he was possibly in possession of a firearm that had been stolen from the victim.

On Thursday, April 26, detectives were able to locate Bruer for questioning. The possible stolen firearm, which was later determined to be a replica of a revolver, was recovered during that time. Burer was then arrested for his alleged involvement in the burglary.

Brown and Bruer are currently incarcerated in the Clay County Justice Center on a $15,000 bond, with no 10 percent allowed.

The Clay County Sheriff's Department is also investigating an attempted burglary south of Staunton, but officials do not believe the two are related.

Officials encourage community members to contact law enforcement when seeing suspicious activity.

Good job CCSD I knew these 2 were up to no good. I spotted both caseing peoples homes on my block at 2 am and walking back and forth from Stauton to Turner several times over the last few weeks or so. I am officially going to join the Staunton watch program.

Combat Vet, you made YOUR problem with Sheriff Heaton the people's problem when you began publicly bashing him and other members of the sheriff's office. I hope the people of this county see through your facade.

I think the Crime Watch program is great...I didn't hear anything in this article of the Crime Watch program being involved in this investigation.

Great job to the investigators of the sheriff's office for solving this riddle.

semtex_sticky or is it Mike? Since when did complaining in public about injustice become a problem? 1st amendment rocks! I had a protection order ignored and I was forced to move! And then the defendant pulled an B & E AT my home! I'm out of allot of $$$$$$ and my retirement home. I can not use my veterans tax exception on my wife's home. It's just not fair!!!!

Nice try Combat VET. The name's not Mike. Again, I quote a comment I wrote in an earlier thread...

"I find it fascinating that of the 29,000+ residents in Clay County (many of which are also veterans of foreign wars - as I am)...very few (if any) feel like Roger La Plante.

Mr. La Plante, I think there is more corruption in using your combat veteran status to attempt to validate your claims against the local government.

Mr. La Plante, I bet ALL of your former neighbors feel differently than you about what happened during the chain of events in which you accuse authorities of injustice against you and yours. I bet deep inside, your family even feels differently than you.

In an earlier post you mentioned you moved from this county. Have you moved back? If so, would you please post your new address so the fine citizens of Clay County can be informed and aware of your current location (and your anti-government views). I definitely do not agree with every decision made by local government. But, I do know they are human and make human error at times.

As far as our current sheriff, he was elected this current term and the previous term by the fine residents of Clay County. Sheriff Heaton is praised in this county because he cares about the people of this county, often times placing them above his own family."

And by the way...the public servants you bash are the same one's you will have to serve beside (if you do happen to win an election).

They should also fix the entire county starting at the corruption at all levels. Save some money and absorb the city Police into the CCSD favoritism and road problem solved. It not rocket science, Marion county did it and it went very smooth.

ELECTION, OH YEA next week don't forget 2 VOTE...

-- Posted by Combat VET on Tue, May 1, 2012, at 1:12 PM

Combat VET... Just go back to your constant complaining of the roads in this county. I dont see you having a chance of being elected. I know that I will not be voting for you. You do an awful lot of bad mouthing other authority figures in this county, and you cant even stay on topic of a simple "two arrested for robbery" conversation, so why would anyone want you in any type of an office?

-- Posted by Bobafett on Tue, May 1, 2012, at 7:52 PM

Bobafett I tried to stay on topic but your buddies are wanting to talk about something else, I am sorry that you are not voting for a person that whats to change the way people do things around here like ripping of the tax payers in this county. My political career will not live and die in CC. I am a veterans rights activist and I am very happy today because our commander in chief ended the war in Afghanistan. Have a nice night bobofat:)

And now you've resorted to name-calling. That's so playground Combat Vet! I repeat...I hope the fine citizens of this county see through your facade.
