The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:

Scholarship

Clay County Extension Homemakers offer a scholarship to all Clay County graduates and Shakamak graduates.

Those interested should check with their guidance counselors at their high schools to receive an application.

The applications are due by May 1, at the Clay County Extension Office, located on the Clay County 4-H Fairgrounds complex.

Optimists Selling Flags

The Clay County Breakfast Optimist Club is selling 3-by-5 American and State of Indiana flags for $8 each.

Park Roads Closing

Some roads in Forest Park will be closed during the Subway/Rotary/Riddell Healthy Kids Fun Run practices and upcoming race.

Fuqua and Center streets will be closed at King Street. In addition, parts of Nabuca Drive, Bonnie Miller Drive, Tobe Sutherlin Lane and Jesse Pitts Drive will be closed.

The park will remain open and all sections will be accessible but may require alternate routes.

Dates and times for closure include 6 p.m., April 30, and 6 p.m., May 3, 7, 10, 14 and 17.

On race day, Saturday, May 19, the roads will be closed from approximately 8 a.m.-noon.

Tea And Brunch

French Funeral Home will host a Mother's Day Tea and Brunch event Monday, April 30, at 10:30 a.m., at the Renaissance Reception and Conference Center, 101 W. National Ave., Brazil.

The event is for anyone who has ever been a daughter.

Brunch will be served.

There will be a style show and demonstrations on cake balls and fresh flower arrangements. Susie French will be the guest speaker.

Lincoln Day Dinner

The annual Clay County Lincoln Day Dinner will take place Monday, April 30, at the Calvary Baptist Church, 526 S. Murphy Ave., Brazil.

Social time will take place at 6 p.m., with dinner at 6:30.

This year's guest speakers will be Indiana 8th District Representative Larry Bucshon and 8th District candidate Kristi Risk.

Cost to attend is $25 per person or $45 per couple and $10 per student.

National Day Of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer will take place Thursday, May 3, at noon, with prayer time beginning at 12:15 p.m., at the Clay County Courthouse.

Yard Sale!

The House of Hope, 5525 W. United States 40, will conduct a giant yard sale May 4-6.

All proceeds will go toward supporting the ministry and ongoing renovations.

Garage Sale

Clay County Search and Rescue is planning a garage sale Saturday, May 5, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

The event will take place at the Clay County Search and Rescue building, 525 E. National Ave., Brazil (behind the building).

All proceeds from the sale will be used to purchase equipment and supplies.

Clay County Search and Rescue is a volunteer organization which responds to county emergency calls -- disaster, medical or accidents -- when requested.

Anyone with items to donate for the sale are encouraged to contact a Search and Rescue member by calling 812-605-2437, 812-605-2406 or 812-223-3352.

Book Signing

Local author Marjorie E. Hopkins will conduct a book signing at the Women's Reading Club at First United Methodist Church, 201 N. Walnut St., Brazil, Saturday, May 5, at 12:30 p.m.

Hopkins will be on hand signing copies of her new book, "Dying to Meet Him: Wit and Wisdom from a Funeral Director's Wife."

Loyalty Day Parade

The V.F.W. Loyalty Day Parade will take place Saturday, May 5, at 2 p.m.

This year's theme is, "And Some Gave All."

The lineup will begin at 1 p.m., at the corner of National Avenue and Depot Street.

Fish Fry!

The Clay City Imperial Regiment will conduct a Fish Fry from 4:30-8:30 p.m., Saturday, May 5, at the Orange Building in Goshorn Park, Clay City.

Advance cost is $7.50 for adults and $5.50 for children. Cost at the door is $8.50 for adults and $6 for children.

Performance

Otter Creek Christian Church will welcome The Stanley Family Singers to its church Saturday, May 5, at 7 p.m., for a special performance.

A love offering will be taken.
