INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- The Indiana Hoosiers have hired Kenny Johnson as their new assistant coach.
Johnson spent last season as an assistant at Towson and the previous four seasons as associate head coach of Paul VI High School in Fairfax, Va. He replaces Bennie Seltzer, who was hired as Samford's head coach early last month.
Coach Tom Crean also had discussed the position with Calbert Cheaney, Indiana's director of basketball operations last season. Crean had said it was up to Cheaney.
Crean later turned to Johnson. In a statement issued by the school, Crean says he admires Johnson's ability to get the most out of his players.
Johnson graduated from Maryland after an injury during his prep career derailed his college hopes to play basketball.
