In the tradition of the movie, "Pay It Forward," students at North Clay Middle School organized a student-driven food drive to benefit the Brazil Food Pantry.
For this year's food drive, it was decided to go with the theme, "Fight Hunger for the Hunger Games."
The excitement and popularity of "The Hunger Games," has taken over pop culture as the movie highlights the plight of the poor in post-apocalyptic America.
A contest was set up where students were given a raffle ticket for each item they donated.
The school was separated into three districts (sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grades).
From the three districts, male and female names were drawn from each.
The students won prizes for their donations.
With the help of North Clay Middle School and a student who made Mockingjay emblems, six trilogies, six tribute guides, two "Hunger Games," books and four posters were given away.
The winners from the school's "Fight Hunger for the Hunger Games," included (district six) Cameron Luke, Trent Smith, Josh Campbell, Chase McCrocklin, Jessica Buckingham, Maggie Mershon, Jacie Sutherland and Savannah Garrett, (district seven) Trey Reberger, Nic Ross, Ashton Rollo, Elliott Stallcop, Shaylyn Ehrlich, Bailey Frye, Lindsay Clark and Alexis Smithhart, (district eight) Jason Samm, Caleb Williams, Taylor Okulovich, Faith Wells, Abby Cooper and Lydia Stallcop.
According to Paul and Jennie Harbour, the NCMS teachers who organized the event, more than 14 paper boxes of food and personal care products were collected for the Brazil Food Pantry.
