The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:

Staunton Meeting Moved

The Staunton Town Council has moved its meeting for the month of May.

The council will meet Tuesday, May 8, at 7 p.m., at the Staunton Community Center.

Donations In Need

Anyone wanting to donate clothing or anything for the Flake family, who lost their home April 27, to fire, may bring it to 315 E. Oak St., Brazil. The residents of this home will contact the Flake family for arrangements to get the items to them.

Currently, in need are men's pants, size 36-by-36, women's pants, sizes 13 and 18, boy's pants, size 8, shirts (two extra-large for both men and women) and large and extra-large shirts for a teenage female, as well as large or medium shirts for boys. In addition, undergarments are needed as well.

The family is also in need of furnishings, such as beds, mattresses and more. All donations are greatly appreciated.

In addition, the family is asking anyone in the community with new or used lumber to call Brazil City Hall at 443-2221.

The family has plans to rebuild the home at the site, located at 503 W. Kruzan St., Brazil.

Brazil Mayor Brian Wyndham is organizing ways to deliver the lumber to the family.


Clay Community School officials moved the date for the anti-bullying summit, planned for May 3, 2012. Officials say they want to postpone the summit for after the start of school this fall. Further details will be released in late July or early August.

Optimists Selling Flags

The Clay County Breakfast Optimist Club is selling 3-by-5 American and State of Indiana flags for $8 each.

Meeting Location Moved

The Clay County Republican Club has changed its meeting place.

The club will now meet at Calvary Baptist Church, 526 S. Murphy Ave., Brazil, beginning with its May 21 meeting.

The church is approximately one block north of Pinckley Street.

Finger foods are provided at meetings and the public is invited to attend.

The meetings take place during the third Monday of each month.

Park Roads Closing

Some roads in Forest Park will be closed during the Subway/Rotary/Riddell Healthy Kids Fun Run practices and upcoming race.

Fuqua and Center streets will be closed at King Street.

In addition, parts of Nabuca Drive, Bonnie Miller Drive, Tobe Sutherlin Lane and Jesse Pitts Drive will be closed.

The park will remain open and all sections will be accessible but may require alternate routes.

Dates and times for closure include 6 p.m., May 3, 7, 10, 14 and 17.

On race day, Saturday, May 19, the roads will be closed from approximately 8 a.m.-noon.
