The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:

Optimists Selling Flags

The Clay County Breakfast Optimist Club is selling 3-by-5 American and State of Indiana flags for $8 each.

Penny Wars!

Clay Community Schools will conduct Penny Wars beginning May 7, and concluding May 11.

The school that raises the money will receive a trophy and a special lap at Relay.

The classroom that raises the most money will get a pizza party provided by the American Cancer Society.

Children's Book Week

The Brazil Public Library will conduct Children's Book Week May 7-12.

Youth of all ages may stop by the library during business hours to help with the celebration.

Youth will be able to make a craft that goes along with a featured series for each day.

Society To Meet

The Clay County Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m., May 7, in the lower level of the Clay County Museum.

The board will meet at 6 p.m.

The program for the evening will be a tour of the Davis Bank Building by Lee Lewis.

Meetings Scheduled

Larry Swan and Doug Wire will lead "The First Step To Authentic Manhood: Looking Back," Tuesday, May 8, from 6-7:30 p.m., at Christ Community Church, north on State Road 59, one mile from the light at Hendrix Street.

Parking will be allowed in the back parking lot.

Those interested in attending may enter into the fellowship hall and they will be directed to the meeting room.

In addition, Encouraging Parents Together (EPT) will conduct a meeting Tuesday, at the same time, at Christ Community Church.

The event, "Happiest Baby on the block," Drue with Health Families, will be offered by EPT Coordinator Kathy Kellum.

Park Board To Meet

The Brazil Park and Recreation Board will conduct its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 8, in Brazil City Hall Council Chambers.

General business will be discussed and the public is welcome to attend.

Board Of Works To Meet

The Brazil Board of Public Works and Safety will conduct a meeting at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 9, at Brazil City Hall Council Chambers.

General business will be discussed and the public is welcome to attend.

Council To Meet

The Brazil Common Council will conduct its monthly meeting at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 9, in Council Chambers.

General business will be discussed and the public is welcome to attend.

Book Signing Scheduled

Local author Marjorie Hopkins will conduct a book signing event at 6:30 p.m., May 10, at the Putnam County Public Library.

Hopkins will be on hand to sign copies of her latest novel, "Dying to Meet Him: Wit and Wisdom from a Funeral Director's Wife."

Shot Clinic

The Clay County Humane Society will sponsor its annual shot clinics Saturday, May 12, from 1-4 p.m., at the Forest Park Pavilion.

Each shot costs $10.
