CLINTON -- The Northview Knights grabbed custody of the program's first outright Western Indiana Conference since the 2002 season with a 7-2 victory on the road at South Vermillion on Tuesday evening.

Kodie Girton pitched a complete game, striking out 10 Wildcats while allowing two earned runs in the victory.

The Knights got on the board in the first inning as Craig Peters singled and Zach Hull doubled. Connor Pierce drove both runs home with an RBI base hit to put Northview on top.

In the fourth inning, Connor Ganly reached on an error and Girton smashed his fifth triple of the year to bring him home. Peters drew a walk and Hull followed with a sacrifice fly to bring home a run. Tyler Wilson drove in Peters with an RBI single and moved to third on a base hit by Dan Reberger. TJ Decker brought both runs home with a two-run double.

Though the Knights piled up nine hits in the game, coach Scott McDonald believed that his team was still recovering from the hectic schedule around the Big Four Tourney.

"We just never could put (South Vermillion) away like we wanted. After the weekend we had starting last Friday with a win over Edgewood, then the Big 4 Championship on Saturday, and then West Vigo last night, it was understandable," McDonald said. "We were every excited to clinch the outright WIC Championship for our baseball program and Northview High School.

"Four big games in a four-day period really took it out of them," McDonald added. "Kodie threw the ball well, our defense was really good, and we never really put together back to back big innings. Zach swung the bat really well tonight, and the rest of the guys got positive at bats for us."

The Knights (15-3 overall, 5-0 WIC) host Owen Valley on Friday night at 5 p.m.
