Two Clay County women were arrested Thursday evening in connection to an alleged burglary attempt.
According to officials with the Clay County Sheriff's Department, law enforcement responded to a possible theft at an abandoned rental property located at 1955 E. Liberty St., Harmony, late Thursday.
Upon arrival, deputies were informed by the owner of the property someone had removed plywood used to board up windows on the home to gain access inside.
The owner advised items had been stolen from the property on two separate occasions recently.
As officials entered the residence, they noticed several items from the home had been collected and allegedly placed near the doorway.
Deputies began a search of the property attempting to locate anyone inside.
After searching several levels of the residence, a woman, later identified as Julie N. Buchanan, 28, Brazil, was located allegedly hiding in an upstairs bedroom closet.
A second woman, later identified as Tina L. Francis, 33, Brazil, was also located in a second bedroom upstairs, allegedly hiding under a bed.
Both women were also found to have warrants out of Clay County.
They were both transported to the Clay County Justice Center.
Buchanan was preliminarily charged with burglary (a class C felony) as well as trespass (a class A misdemeanor).
Francis was preliminarily charged with burglary, trespass, possession of methamphetamine (a class D felony), and possession of paraphernalia (a class A misdemeanor).
