The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:

City Reminder

Officials with the Brazil City Garage recently issued a reminder for all residents that due to the Memorial Day Holiday, scheduled for Monday, May 28, trash pickup will run one day behind for that week.

Dems To Meet

The local Democratic Party will meet Tuesday, May 15, at 7 p.m., at the Senior Citizen Center.

All candidates are requested to attend.

The Democrats plan to meet the third Tuesday of every month, and the public is welcome to attend.

Library Program

Master Gardener and Master Naturalist Karen Staub will be at the Brazil Public Library May 17, beginning at 6 p.m., to provide a presentation on Indiana's edible and medicinal plant species.

She will also bring some treats from her back yard for those in attendance.

Those wishing to attend should call the library to reserve seating.

Association Meeting

The McCullough Zion Cemetery Association will meet at the Cory Zion Church Thursday, May 17, at 7 p.m.

All interested persons are urged to attend the meeting to discuss business of the association.

Dinner Time!

The Fontanet Action Community Team will host a baked pasta dinner Friday, May 18, from 4-7:30 p.m., at the Fontanet Community Building.

Freewill donations will be accepted.

Moonshine Ride For Relay

The annual Moonshine Ride For Relay will take place Saturday, May 19.

Registration for the ride will take place from 8-9 a.m., with kickstands up promptly at 9 a.m.

Cost to participate is $10 per bike, with all proceeds going to Relay For Life.

Book Signing

Local author Marjorie Hopkins will conduct a book signing event at the Vigo County Public Library from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, May 19.

She will be signing copies of her new novel, "Dying to Meet Him: Wit and Wisdom from a Funeral Director's Wife."

Summer Story Hour

Parents wanting to get their children interested in reading with songs, crafts and stories are encouraged to bring them to the Brazil Public Library, as Summer Story Hour will resume in June.

Registration for the event will be May 21, for children ages 3-5. Registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Story Hour will begin Tuesday, June 5, and Wednesday, June 6, at 10:30 a.m.

Space is limited.

Children must be potty trained and parents must have a valid library card.

No registration will be taken over the phone.

Area Senior Picnic

Area 7 Agency on Aging and Disabled will host its Area Day Senior Citizens Picnic Friday, May 25, at Forest Park.

Tickets are $8 per person and available to be purchased by persons 50-plus.

The ticket price includes lunch, snacks, opportunity to play small games, door prizes, entertainment and the opportunity to visit service/product information booths.

The picnic will take place from 10 a.m.-2:15 p.m.

Dinner Time!

The Lady Volunteers will conduct an indoor picnic at the Staunton Community Center from 4-7 p.m., Friday, May 25.

The menu will consist of barbecued pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans, potato salad, deviled eggs, dessert, coffee, team and lemonade.

Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children 10-under.

All proceeds will benefit the Staunton Community Center.

Planting Flowers

On Saturday, May 28, at 1 p.m., the Friends of Cagles Mill Lake will meet at the Service Area of Lieber State Recreation Area to help plant flowers.

All are invited.

Money donations for flowers and landscaping expenses are always welcome.

Tax donation checks may be made to Friends of Cagles Mill Lake and mailed to Lieber S.R.A., 1317 W. Lieber Rd., Suite No. 1, Cloverdale, Ind., 46120.

Camper Rally

The fourth Southern Indiana Vintage Camper Rally will take place Thursday-Sunday, June 7-10, at Vigo County's Fowler Park and Pioneer Village, located south of Terre Haute on East Oregon Church Road.

The event costs $75 per travel trailer, which includes all rally and camping fees.

Truck Pull

The annual Saline City Truck Pull will take place Saturday, June 9.

Pulling will begin at 5:30 p.m. Weigh-ins will run from 2-5 p.m.

Cost is $8 for adults. Children 10-under will be admitted free.

There are limited bleacher seats. Those interested are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

Cost to enter a truck is $20 per hook.

Festival!

The 2012 Bloomfield Art Festival will take place Saturday, June 9, in the Bloomfield Town Park.

The festival will be open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
