The Northview softball team had to wait more than a week to finish its final game of the Big Four Tourney, but it was well worth the delay.

The Knights pounded out 12 hits and got a two-hit shutout from Taylor Carter on the way to a 16-0 pummeling of West Vigo in five innings that gave Northview the Big Four championship through a fewest runs allowed tiebreaker over the course of the three-game tournament slate.

Kylie McKee provided five RBI in the game with a two-run single in a five-run first inning, a sacrifice fly in the second inning and a two-run single in a nine-run fourth frame.

Coach Bethany Jones was glad to see McKee getting hot at the right time.

"You know (McKee) did that against Owen Valley too," Jones said of McKee's production at the plate. "It's nice to see, her senior year, her stepping up and putting the ball into play when we had runners on. I've been really proud of her the last couple of games."

McKee was just 3-for-23 at the plate in an eight-game stretch, but in her last two games she has four hits and seven RBI while scoring five times for the Knights.

The Knights have made a habit of waiting until the end of games for some dramatic comebacks, but put those thoughts aside quickly on Monday.

Whitney Halfhill led off the game with a single, Ashley Hughes bunted for a base hit and Alyssa Conrad drilled a run scoring single to leftfield. After Hope Torbert drew a walk, McKee busted a two-run single. Kindra Cox sent a two-out liner to rightfield that was misplayed for a two-run error to put the Knights ahead, 5-0 after one inning.

"It's one thing that we've really struggled with this year. We wait until the seventh inning before we decide to come and play ball," Jones said. "They came out in the first inning and stayed up the entire game. West Vigo is playing good ball right now. They played (Class 2A No. 1 ranked) South Putnam tough. (Northview) didn't let down. This is the time of the year that you've got to have that and it was nice to see."

Northview added a run in each of the next two innings on McKee's sacrifice fly that scored Carter in the second and a wild pitch brought Madison Nevins in to score after she had doubled.

The biggest damage was done in the fourth inning as Northview sent 13 batters to the plate and scored nine times.

Conrad reached with her third hit of the game and McKee scored her and Carter, who had walked, with a single. Pinch runner Shelby Dupin scored on an error and Halfhill drove home Melissa Lummis for an 11-0 lead. Kindra Cox reached on an error and scored on another mistake by the Vikings. Hughes singled and Carter followed by drilling a two RBI triple to the wall in right field. Hope Torbert would finish the outburst with a run scoring single.

Jones credited her team's patience at the plate, drawing seven walks off three different Viking pitchers, for sparking the Knights' sixth straight victory.

"We talked about being patient and waiting for your pitch and then driving it," Jones said. "They were disciplined and they did that tonight."

The Big Four title was the third overall for Jones, who is in her eighth season as head coach of the Knights.

Northview (21-5 overall, 5-1 WIC) also clinched a share of the conference championship along with Brown County and Edgewood. The Knights wrap up the regular season with a home game tonight against Terre Haute North and Rockville.

"This will be a tough week for us. We've got Terre Haute North (Tuesday) and they've already beaten us once," Jones said. "It's going to be a tough game and then we've got Rockville on Thursday. We're just using these games to fix what we have to and to be ready to come out and play Monday night."
