The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:

City Reminder

Officials with the Brazil City Garage recently issued a reminder for all residents that due to the Memorial Day Holiday, scheduled for Monday, May 28, trash pickup will run one day behind for that week.

Optimists Selling Flags

The Clay County Breakfast Optimist Club is selling 3-by-5 American and State of Indiana flags at a cost of $8 each.

The flags may be purchased at Moore Funeral Home or by calling 446-8495 or 812-249-0850.

Old flags may be disposed in front of Moore Funeral Home.

Park Roads Closing

Some roads in Forest Park will be closed during the Subway/Rotary/Riddell Healthy Kids Fun Run practices and upcoming race.

Fuqua and Center streets will be closed at King Street. In addition, parts of Nabuca Drive, Bonnie Miller Drive, Tobe Sutherlin Lane and Jesse Pitts Drive will be closed.

The park will remain open and all sections will be accessible but may require alternate routes.

On race day, Saturday, May 19, the roads will be closed from approximately 8 a.m.-noon.

Dinner Time!

The Fontanet Action Community Team will host a baked pasta dinner Friday, May 18, from 4-7:30 p.m., at the Fontanet Community Building.

Freewill donations will be accepted.

Moonshine Ride For Relay

The annual Moonshine Ride For Relay will take place Saturday, May 19.

Registration for the ride will take place from 8-9 a.m., with kickstands up promptly at 9 a.m.

Cost to participate is $10 per bike, with all proceeds going to Relay For Life.

Bee Ridge Church will host an all-you-can-eat breakfast Saturday, May 19, from 8-11 a.m., at the church, located on North Kennedy's Crossing Road.

Menu items will include bacon, eggs, egg casserole, rolls and more. The meal will be prepared by the Bee Ridge Breakfast Crew.

There is no cost for the breakfast but a freewill donation will be accepted and all proceeds will benefit the Bee Ridge Church New Building Project.

The public is encouraged to attend the event.

Book Signing

Local author Marjorie Hopkins will conduct a book signing event at the Vigo County Public Library from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, May 19.

She will be signing copies of her new novel, "Dying to Meet Him: Wit and Wisdom from a Funeral Director's Wife."

Fish Fry

Berea Christian Church, 1995 W. CR 800 N., Brazil, will host a Jonah Fish Fry Saturday from 4-8 p.m., at the church, located at the corner of Waterworks and Billville roads.

Cost is $8.50 for adults and $4.50 for children 10-under.

All proceeds will go to support mission trips.

Meeting Set

The Brazil Board of Public Works and Safety will conduct a meeting Wednesday, May 23, at 10 a.m., in Brazil City Hall Council Chambers.

General business will be discussed and the public is welcome to attend.

Area Senior Picnic

Area 7 Agency on Aging and Disabled will host its Area Day Senior Citizens Picnic Friday, May 25, at Forest Park.

Tickets are $8 per person and available to be purchased by persons 50-plus.

The ticket price includes lunch, snacks, opportunity to play small games, door prizes, entertainment and the opportunity to visit service/product information booths.

The picnic will take place from 10 a.m.-2:15 p.m.

Planting Flowers

On Saturday, May 28, at 1 p.m., the Friends of Cagles Mill Lake will meet at the Service Area of Lieber State Recreation Area to help plant flowers.

All are invited.

Money donations for flowers and landscaping expenses are always welcome.

Tax donation checks may be made to Friends of Cagles Mill Lake and mailed to Lieber S.R.A., 1317 W. Lieber Rd., Suite No. 1, Cloverdale, Ind., 46120.

Make And Take Crafts!

The Brazil Public Library will host a make and take craft event for youth ages 7-under at the library Thursday, May 31.

Youth may stop by the library between 6-7 p.m., to make a silly grass head.

Blood Drives

The Indiana Blood Center will host three blood drives in June in Clay County.

The following are the locations of the blood drives, including date and times:

* June 7 -- Clay County Sheriff's Department, 1:30-6:30 p.m.,

* June 11 -- Holly Hill, 10 a.m.-noon, and

* June 16 -- Annunciation Church, 9 a.m.-noon.
