On Thursday, members of the Clay Community Schools (CCS) board requested to receive more quotes for specific renovations needed for the corporation's new bus garage.

During the board's meeting, CCS Supt. Kim Tucker recommended the board approve a quote from Sycamore Engineering, Terre Haute, for all of the renovations.

Tucker informed the board the corporation had worked with Sycamore Engineering in the past and asked for their approval of the quote.

However, members of the board were reluctant to give final approval for all renovations of the corporation's new bus garage Thursday.

Board member Ron Scherb expressed concern regarding the cost of the quote for the renovations, estimated at $450,000.

After he voiced his concern, Scherb immediately offered a motion to table the issue in order to have more time to examine it.

Tucker, however, said she hoped to have renovations completed before the beginning of the 2012-13 school year.

After going through the list of renovations, Tucker suggested to the board the first few should be completed as soon as possible, including establishing three-phase power for the building, outdoor lighting and the addition of perimeter fencing.

"I would prefer to get rolling and add some things as we go," Tucker said.

After discussion, the board whittled the list down to the perimeter fencing, outdoor lighting and floor drains for the building.

Scherb then agreed to withdraw his motion to table the issue in order to get moving on the renovations.

Board members then asked for additional quotes for three-phase power for the building and outdoor lighting and the remaining items.

The board voted in favor of the reconfigured motion by a 4-1 vote, with member Forrest Buell voting no.

In conjunction to the renovations, the board also approved via 5-0 vote a motion to accept a quote to extend fiber optic cable to the new facility at an estimated cost of $50,000.

In April, the board approved a motion to purchase property located at 410 W. Pinckley St., Brazil, to house the corporation transportation office. The cost was $225,000.

The property includes a 6,000-square foot metal building, which was built in 2000, along with 2.62 acres of land.

It is equipped with two 14-foot garage doors and docks, as well as restrooms and offices.

Meanwhile, the board reviewed bids for bread products and dairy and milk products and determined selections will be made at its June meeting.

The board meets regularly on the second Thursday of each month at the North Clay Middle School Media Center.

Its next meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Thursday, June 14.
