The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:

County Closings

The Clay County Commissioners announced Wednesday the Clay County Courthouse, highway department, extension office, soil and water conservation office and health department will be closed Monday, May 28, in observance of Memorial Day.

All offices will re-open at their regular times Tuesday, May 29.

City Reminder

Officials with the Brazil City Garage recently issued a reminder for all residents that due to the Memorial Day Holiday, scheduled for Monday, May 28, trash pickup will run one day behind for that week.

Dinner Time!

The Lady Volunteers will conduct an indoor picnic at the Staunton Community Center from 4-7 p.m., Friday, May 25.

The menu will consist of barbecued pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans, potato salad, deviled eggs, dessert, coffee, team and lemonade.

Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children 10-under.

All proceeds will benefit the Staunton Community Center.

Craft Time

Children ages 8-older are invited to the Brazil Public Library Wednesday, May 30, anytime between 6-7 p.m., to make a "Grasshead" guy.

The program is free and open to the public.


The Brazil Public Library will host a make and take craft event for youth ages 7-under at the library Thursday, May 31. Youth may stop by the library between 6-7 p.m., to make a silly grass head.

Quilt Show

The Clay City Calico Quilters will sponsor the 25th quilt show at the Clay City Lion's Club Pottery Festival June 9-10.

Show hours are Saturday, June 9, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday, June 10, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. The show will be open before other festival activities Friday, June 8, from 6-8:30 p.m. Admission at all viewings is $2. The quilt show will be set up in the R.E.I.N. Center Community Library, 700 Main St., Clay City.
