An area woman is hoping to inspire others through her new book, "How to be Happy."

Jeanne (Harris) Moschenrose grew up in Clay County, the daughter of Wayne and Ima Jean Harris.

After graduating from Brazil High School, Moschenrose received a bachelor's degree in child development and consumer education from Indiana State University. She received her master's degree from the University of Louisville in education, specializing in counseling.

Moschenrose also has a Master of Divinity from Southern Baptist Seminary and a Doctorate in theocentric psychology and counseling.

"How to be Happy" is Moschenrose's first book, and she said writing a book is something she's always wanted to do.

"It's about the simple steps to having more joy in your life at any age or in any situation," Moschenrose said. "Regardless of your past or feelings at the time, you can have joy in your life."

The back of "How to be Happy," reads, "Insights from this book can change your life from depression to hope, fatigue to renewed strength, from defeat to victory, from mediocrity to abundant life with overflowing joy."

After working on the book for one year, Moschenrose said she hopes the book will help others.

"I saw so many people that were burdened down and not having the joy that could be in their life," she said. "There was so much stress and hard times, so this is an inspirational type of book."

Moschenrose is a Christian counselor, who formerly taught at Hannibal LaGrange University, Missouri. She has directed counseling programs and trained counselors, as well as worked in incarcerated women's rehabilitation, youth mentoring programs, recovery from abuse groups, dual-diagnosis counseling and recovery groups from addiction. She recently relocated back to the area, currently living in Coatesville.

"How to be Happy" was officially released in December 2011, and the author is preparing to begin book signings. She said she hopes to come to the Brazil Public Library for a book signing soon.

"I am very happy about the quality of the book," Moschenrose said. "I'm getting really good responses from people who are reading it. I just hope to be a good influence. I hope it will really help readers."
