The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:

City Reminder

Officials with the Brazil City Garage recently issued a reminder for all residents that due to the Memorial Day Holiday, scheduled for Monday, May 28, trash pickup will run one day behind for that week.

Optimists Selling Flags

The Clay County Breakfast Optimist Club is selling 3-by-5 American and State of Indiana flags at a cost of $8 each.

The flags may be purchased at Moore Funeral Home or by calling 446-8495 or 812-249-0850.

Old flags may be disposed in front of Moore Funeral Home.

Donations

The Brazil Lions Club is currently accepting used eyeglasses and hearing aids for donations through a recycling program.

Donation boxes have been set up at Terre Haute Savings Bank, 260 E. National Ave., Brazil, or The Brazil Times, 100 N. Meridian St., Brazil.

Scheduled Meetings

The Clay County Local Emergency Planning Committee will conduct its regular 2012 meetings prior to the Clay County Fire Chief's Association at 6 p.m., with the chief's meetings at 7 p.m., during the following dates:

* Aug. 21 -- At the Van Buren Fire House, and

* Nov. 20 -- At the Posey Township Fire House.

Time For Music!

Country and western music will be offered at the Clay County Senior Citizen's Center, 120 S. Franklin St., Brazil, Saturday.

Doors will open at 6 p.m., for those wishing to eat.

Music will begin at 7 p.m., and conclude at 9. All are welcome.

Breakfast!

The Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department will conduct a fundraising breakfast on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, from 7-11 a.m.

The menu will consist of pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs and biscuits and gravy.

Freewill offerings will be accepted.

Craft Time

Children ages 8-older are invited to the Brazil Public Library Wednesday, May 30, anytime between 6-7 p.m., to make a "Grasshead" guy.

The program is free and open to the public.

Crafts!

The Brazil Public Library will host a make and take craft event for youth ages 7-under at the library Thursday, May 31.

Youth may stop by the library between 6-7 p.m., to make a silly grass head.

Blood Drives

The Indiana Blood Center will host three blood drives in June in Clay County.

The following are the locations of the blood drives, including date and times:

* June 7 -- Clay County Sheriff's Department, 1:30-6:30 p.m.,

* June 11 -- Holly Hill, 10 a.m.-noon, and

* June 16 -- Annunciation Church, 9 a.m.-noon.

Open House

According to officials with the Southern Indiana Vintage Camper Rally, registrations for the upcoming event are no longer being accepted as the event -- scheduled for June 9-10 -- is sold out.

However, all are invited to the Show and Shine Open House Saturday, June 9, from 1-4 p.m., at Fowler Park and Pioneer Village, located south of Terre Haute on United States 41 on East Oregon Church Road.

All visitors will be given the opportunity to walk through 55 vintage trailers.

Quilt Show

The Clay City Calico Quilters will sponsor the 25th quilt show at the Clay City Lion's Club Pottery Festival June 9-10.

Show hours are Saturday, June 9, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday, June 10, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

The show will be open before other festival activities Friday, June 8, from 6-8:30 p.m.

Admission at all viewings is $2.

The quilt show will be set up in the R.E.I.N. Center Community Library, 700 Main St., Clay City.

Food Giveaway

The Church of Our Lord Jesus, 708 E. Hendrix St., Brazil, will conduct a food giveaway Saturday, June 9, from 1-3 p.m.

Festival!

The 2012 Bloomfield Art Festival will take place Saturday, June 9, in the Bloomfield Town Park.

The festival will be open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Family Day

Family Day at St. Mary-of-the-Woods will take place from 1-4 p.m., Sunday, June 10.

The event will take place at the Sisters of Providence, located on the campus of St. Mary-of-the-Woods College.

The Sisters of Providence will host the free annual event.
