CCS Director of Personnel, Data and Food Service Carolyn Kumpf recently received the Region 7 School Support Professional of the Year award during the organization's annual conference at the French Lick Convention Center.
"I wasn't expecting it, and I was very surprised," Kumpf said. "We meet as a region, and I'm not sure how they go about the nominations."
Kumpf explained the professional group chooses its candidates based largely on participation and involvement within the association.
"I go to all the meetings and trainings, and I recently earned a certification in Human Resources this year ... it's almost like a degree," Kumpf said of the 71-hour certification program. "The IASBO committee really looks at business professionals who are actively involved."
Kumpf added the majority of the conferences involve networking during the events with people who all do the same job from around the state.
"We discuss how each situation is handled at our various (places of employment)," Kumpf said.
She has worked for CCS for 26 years, the past six years in her current position.
"The Region 7 recipient is chosen from the west central part of the state. Vigo, Clay, Owen and Putnam counties are all included in the region, as well as others," Kumpf said. "I really appreciate receiving the award. It meant a lot to me."
