Former SV golfer to play for ISU

Thursday, May 31, 2012

TERRE HAUTE -- Indiana State women's golf coach Greg Towne has announced that two athletes from Indiana have signed their national letters of intent (NLI) to join the Sycamore women's golf team beginning with the 2012 Fall season.

Bailey Craft from South Vermillion High School (Clinton, Ind.) and Shelby Williams from Plainfield High School (Plainfield, Ind.) each signed their NLI's and have been accepted into Indiana State University beginning with the Fall 2012 semester.

Craft won the Western Indiana Conference (WIC) championship in 2010 and 2011 while posting a high school record of 33-4. She was named All-WIC three times, was sectional runner-up in 2010 and 2011, and competed in the regional three times. A four-year letterman in golf, she was captain of the golf team for three years and named Most Valuable Player in 2008.

"I am really eager to have Bailey join our team," Towne said. "The prospect of having another local talent here at ISU is good news for our program. Bailey is intrinsically motivated to play golf and I am certain with the training we are able to provide her at Indiana State, she will be excel and become a great player in the Missouri Valley Conference."

A member of the National Honor Society, Craft received the Academic Excellence award twice and was a state finalist in the 2010 Spell Bowl. She also competed one year in varsity softball, one year on varsity swimming, and was a member or the dance team for two years.

Williams is a four year varsity letter recipient while competing at Plainfield High School. She was the team's Most Valuable Player twice and was named All-County for three years. Williams was the county champion in 2011 and placed in the top 30 at the 2010 State Championship.

"Shelby is going to be a great fit for the team," Towne said. "Her personality and eagerness to be a part of our Sycamore family was evident throughout the recruiting process. She has an immense desire to become the best golfer she can and to contribute to the success of Sycamore golf. She will be a fantastic teammate."
