Associate Chapter of Tri Kappa
The Associate Chapter of Tri Kappa met Monday, May 7, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church.
After a delicious meal of soups, sandwiches and desserts, the program was presented by Shannon Willmore, director of the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program in Clay County.
This program uses volunteers to advocate for children such as those in abusive homes, children of meth users, etc.
Currently, there are 35 children in the program, up from 12 just nine months ago. The volunteers contact the children at least once a month, represent them at the court review that takes place every three months and give their recommendations to Clay County Circuit Court Judge Joe Trout.
This program saved the state of Indiana more than $21 million just last year since it is staffed by volunteers.
At this time, there is a great need for more volunteers. Those interested should contact Shannon Willmore for more information. Contributions are also accepted. In the past, these have been paid for items such as space heaters, clothing and school field trips.
President Jacque Reberger called the meeting to order with the usual song and verse. Roll call was answered by 17 members and one guest. The minutes of the April meeting were read and approved as was the treasurer's report.
Cards were signed to send to those with health issues and to thank the Sarah Circle of the First Methodist Church for their hospitality during the past year. Dinner will be provided one evening for Roberta Weliever as she recovers from surgery.
A thank you was received from our sponsored Serving On The Streets (S.O.S.) child, and Jacque Reberger and Janice Clark will take care of the summer encouragements for her. Thanks were also given to those who attended the active's Longaberger Bingo fundraiser.
It was decided to spend $40 each so our S.O.S. child and her brother will be able to attend the S.O.S. Supper Day Camp this summer.
Also approved were $50 to Jim Minnick in appreciation of his janitorial services this past year and $50 for Shannon Willmore to spend as the need arises in the CASA Program.
Next year, in addition to our Angels for East Side, scholarship and Secret Sister Baskets, we will add one for CASA.
Addresses, e-mail addresses and phone numbers were corrected for next year's program book. It was decided to have our meetings in various places for the coming year. The executive board will decide on the details at their meeting this summer.
Thanks to tonight's committee: Marsha Wyndham, Veda Bussing, Dabren Clark, Rita Robertson and Muriel Glidden. The September meeting will be hosted by Jacque Reberger, Janice Clark and Sandy Swindle.
The Secret Sister gifts were won by Jacque Reberger and Marian Harrison.
