Melvin Harvey "Red" Alexander, 88, Greencastle, passed away Monday, June 4, 2012.

He was born Sept. 21, 1923, in Mansfield, Ind., to Leslie Alexander and Amy Martin Alexander.

Mr. Alexander was a graduate of Bellmore High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Red retired from Lonestar Industries.

Harvey was very proud of his membership at Lena United Methodist Church and exhibited his membership through visitation with those who were in need of uplifting. He was always willing to listen and assist in anyway necessary.

His parents, sisters LaMoyne Sewell, LaVern Blake and Elsie Lee Crooks, and grandson Ronnie Joe Alexander, preceded him in death.

A true family man, he is survived by his wife of 66 years, Florence Martin Alexander, children Ronnie Alexander and wife Jennifer, Brownsburg, Jerry Alexander and wife JoEllen, Greencastle, James Alexander and wife Debby, Greencastle, and Janice Neumann and companion Dennis Goldberg, Greencastle, 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will take place Friday, June 8, 2012, at 10 a.m., at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, with Pastor Bob Kumpf officiating.

Interment with honors will follow at Boone Hutcheson Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday, June 7, 2012, from 4-8 p.m., at the funeral home.
