Knights hand out spring team awards

Northview High School spring athletes were on hand last week as all-conference awards were presented during a banquet and the individual sports also awarded athletes for their efforts.

The most noteworthy presentation for each sport is the Noble Knight Award that is presented to one athlete in each sport throughout the year. The award signifies the athlete's contribution to Northview athletics in terms of service, dedication, commitment and leadership.

The baseball award was presented to TJ Decker, Larry Knight won in golf, Whitney Halfhill was the softball winner, Jenna Smith captured the tennis award, Nic Yocom won in boys' track and field and Natasha Barrett was the girls' recipient in track and field this spring.

Four-year participation awards went to Tanner Glenn, Kodie Girton, Tyler Wilson, Zach Hull, Brock Wheeler, Coleman Craig, Decker and Bryant Pestoff in baseball. Knight on the boys' golf four-year award and Samantha Montague, Alyssa Conrad and Kylee McKee received the nod in softball. Smith, Trisha Cox and Kelsey Oehler won the award in tennis and Patrick Durcholz, Damon Hyatt and Ethan Stewart won in boys' track.

Coach Emily Goff's sectional champion tennis team handed out its captain awards to Trisha Cox, Smith and Oehler. The Most Improved Award went to Kaysia Reberger this spring with Hannah Minor winning the Newcomer Award and Nicole Linton was named Most Valuable Player.

Girls' track a and field awards went to Hannah Zadeii for Outstanding Commitment, Gracie Geswein for Most Valuable Newcomer and Leeanna Knight for Most Valuable Performer. In boys' track and field, Devon Cooksey won Most Improved and Aaron Brown won the Newcomer Award. The Mental Attitude Award went to Austin Vaughn.

The boys' golf awards were led by Knight, who won the MVP for this season followed by regional qualifier, Dylan Nesty, who won the Coach's Award. Knight was also the Fairway in Regulation winner and Greens in Regulation leader. Keegan Roembke won the Putting Award and shared the Rookie of the Year Award.

In softball, Conrad, Kylie McKee and Montague were the Captain Award winners. Taylor Carter was the winner of the Pitching Award, Most Consistent Player and top Offensive Player. The Defensive Award went to Conrad with Kindra Cox winning Most Improved and Ashley Hughes took the Mental Attitude Award.

This year's baseball awards were topped by senior first baseman, Zach Hull, who won the Andrew Griffin Memorial MVP Award. The Rose-Hulman signee was joined by Brock Wheeler, the winner of the Andy Lumsdon Pitcher of the Year Award. The Brady Shoemaker Offensive Player of the Year was won by Connor Pierce and Hull won the David Ullery Defensive Player of the Year Award. Brad Pierce Rookie of the Year was Damon Bass and Wilson, Decker and Hull shared the Craig Trout Captain Award. Wheeler won the Matt Nodley Most Improved Award.
