The Southern Indiana Racing Association annual Go-Kart races will take place Saturday, June 16, and Sunday, June 17 -- Father's Day weekend -- on the tri-oval track at Forest Park.

The weekend of racing, which is free to all spectators, is a pre-celebration portion of the 77th Rotary Club of Brazil's annual 4th of July Celebration.

The 4th of July Rotary Club of Brazil fundraiser is scheduled to begin two weeks later, Wednesday, June 27.

Saturday, June 16, is practice day at the track, with action beginning at 10 a.m., and races from 3-5 p.m. Times for the go-kart events are approximate and may depend on weather conditions, the number of drivers entered, and how quickly heats will run.

Clay County Search and Rescue will serve breakfast, lunch and sell beverages at a centrally located food booth both race days.

Rotary Club of Brazil members will also be around the race area selling advance sale raffle tickets good for a chance at the $10,000 grand prize drawing, which will take place at 11 p.m., July 4.

After Saturday's practice, Clay County Search and Rescue will conduct a Country Rhodes buffet dinner at the Forest Park Pavilion, from 4-7 p.m.

The public is welcome to come and eat dinner with the go-kart riders and Clay County Search and Rescue personnel before sticking around to watch as on-stage entertainment begins.

Performing at the Go-Kart race weekend will be Toni's Tumbling and Dance Studio at 4 p.m., followed by the band Internal Cry at 5 p.m. At 6 p.m., local band P150 will perform.

Also during the Saturday dinner, there will be opportunities to enter door prize drawings and participate in a silent auction to benefit Clay County Search and Rescue.

The Country Rhodes fish, chicken and shrimp buffet dinner tickets cost $8.50 for adults. Children 12-under will be admitted for $5.50. Tickets are currently on sale by contacting Clay County Search and Rescue members.

The ticket price will be the same at the door, but advance purchase of tickets is encouraged.

For more information on the dinner, call Derek Eaglin at 812-605-2406 or Terry Eaglin at 812-605-2437, or e-mail ccsrnews@gmail.com.

Sunday, June 17, is when the official SIRA Go-Kart races take place, from 11 a.m., to approximately 5 p.m. Races may end earlier.

The Brazil Concert Band will also perform "Father's Fantastic Favorites," at 8 p.m., Sunday, in the Forest Park Band Shell.

Drivers and spectators from across the Midwest come to Brazil for the Go-Kart Classic race weekend.

Official race sponsors are SIRA and the Rotary Club of Brazil, with all weekend food sales and fundraising during the Saturday entertainment and buffet to benefit Clay County Search and Rescue.
