Clay City man arrested

CLAY CITY -- Indiana State Police detectives from the Putnamville Post concluded a weeklong investigation recently into allegations that a Clay City man had sexual relations with a 14-year-old female acquaintance from rural Clay County.

Anthony G. Sappenfield, 19, Clay City, was arrested Monday at the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post.

Sappenfield was incarcerated in the Clay County Justice Center on three counts of Sexual Misconduct with a Minor (a class C felony).

His bond was set at $25,000, with no 10 percent allowed.

According to information provided by Indiana State Police, detectives were notified of the allegations on June 5 by the victim's parents.

During the course of the investigation, detectives developed information alleging Sappenfield had sexual relations with the female on multiple occasions beginning in April this year and ending in June.

The sexual acts are alleged to have take place in the victim's home.

The case was investigated by ISP Det. Chris Carter.

Assisting were ISP Det. Sam Stearley, ISP troopers Brandon Mullen and Todd Brown, Clay County Department of Child Services, and the Clay County Prosecutor's Office.
