The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:

Holiday Schedule

The following is a publishing schedule for The Brazil Times for the week of Monday, July 2, to Saturday, July 7.

Papers will be published Monday, July 2, Thursday, July 5, Friday, July 6, and Saturday, July 7.

No newspapers will be published Tuesday, July 3, or Wednesday, July 4, due to the July 4 holiday.

In addition, offices for the week will be 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday, July 2, Tuesday, July 3, Thursday, July 5, and Friday, July 6.

The office will be closed Wednesday, July 4, for the July 4 holiday.

Trash Notice

Due to the July 4 holiday falling on a Wednesday this year, trash pickup in the City of Brazil will run one day behind schedule.

For example, the Wednesday pickup will take place Thursday, July 5, while the Thursday pickup will take place Friday, July 6.

Armband Tickets

Area banks will soon have discounted armband tickets for the upcoming Rotary Club of Brazil's annual 4th of July Celebration on sale.

Local banks will sell the armband tickets through June 26.

Residents may purchase the armbands for $15, rather than $20, which is what the cost will be during the festival.

New Group

The Scrapettes are proud to announce their new scrapbooking group.

They are asking anyone to come have fun with them, make new friends and preserve memories.

Cost is $5 per person and all money goes to the senior center for cost of use of the building.

Those ages 18-older are invited. The meetings will take place during the last Saturday of each month at the Clay County Senior Citizen's Center, 120 S. Franklin St., Brazil.

Office Hours

The main office of Northview High School will be open Monday, Wednesday and Friday during the summer from 8 a.m.-noon, beginning June 15 through July 23.

Transcripts and work permits may be obtained during those times.

The office will reopen for regular business hours Tuesday, July 24.

Scheduled Meetings

The Clay County Local Emergency Planning Committee will conduct its regular 2012 meetings prior to the Clay County Fire Chief's Association at 6 p.m., with the chief's meetings at 7 p.m., during the following dates:

* Aug. 21 -- At the Van Buren Fire House, and

* Nov. 20 -- At the Posey Township Fire House.

Baby Shower

MDWise will sponsor the annual Bluebelle's Baby Shower June 21, from noon-2 p.m., at the YMCA of Clay County, 225 E. Kruzan St., Brazil.

The event is open to any and all pregnant women in the community. Games, prizes, giveaways, snacks and valuable information for expectant mothers will be available.

Meeting Set

The Brazil Board of Public Works and Safety will conduct a meeting Friday, June 22, at 10:30 a.m., in Brazil City Hall Council Chambers.

General business will be discussed and the public is welcome to attend.

Dinner!

The Lady Volunteers of Staunton will host a dinner at the Staunton Community Center Friday, June 22, from 4-7 p.m.

The meal will consist of beef and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, dinner rolls, coffee, tea, lemonade and dessert.

Cost is $9 for adults and $5 for children 10-under.

All proceeds will benefit the new Posey Township Volunteer Firehouse.

Golf Scramble

The Mitchell Price four-man golf scramble will take place June 23, at 1 p.m., at the Clover Meadows Golf Course.

Cost to participate is $25 per person. The scramble was organized by Tyler and Darin Price.

Lunch will be available.

Meeting Scheduled

The Clay County Chamber of Commerce will conduct its monthly luncheon Tuesday, June 26, at the Renaissance Reception and Conference Center, 101 W. National Ave., Brazil.

The luncheon will begin at noon.

The featured speaker will be Clay Community Schools Superintendent Kim Tucker.

Achievement Night

Clay County Extension Homemakers will conduct Achievement Night Tuesday, June 26, at the Clay County Fairgrounds.

Registration is 5:30-6 p.m.

The theme this year is "Country Hoedown."
