Approximately 18 new or expectant mothers attended the second MDwise Community Baby Shower Thursday, which took place at the YMCA of Clay County, 225 E. Kruzan St., Brazil.

The two-hour event offered expectant and new mothers an opportunity to receive additional information on parenting.

"We have lots of fun and learn in the process," MDwise representative Jamie Cartwright told The Brazil Times.

Several agencies, including the Community Alliance and Services for Young Children (CASY), Union Hospital, Clay County Women, Infants and Children, Children's Bureau, Crisis Pregnancy Center, Child Adult Resource Services (C.A.R.S.), Purdue Extension and Indiana First Steps all offered the mothers information.

Brazil resident Chastity Sinclair, who is expecting twin girls in the fall, said the event was very helpful.

"I think it will be very helpful to a lot of people, especially single moms," Sinclair said. "This lets everybody know about all the resources that are out there."

Sinclair said she saw advertisements regarding the event and planned to attend.

"I wanted to see what it was about," Sinclair said. "There are a lot of things available."

Purdue Extension representative Donna Black was the featured speaker. She spoke on healthy eating during pregnancy, among other items.

All the women in attendance received door prizes. In addition, they played Baby Shower Bingo and were served pizza, water and cupcakes.
