Mrs. Carol Unger Smith, 75, New Albany, Ms., formerly of Lebanon, Ind., passed away Thursday, June 28, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union County, Ms., of natural causes.
She was born on July 15, 1936, in Randolph County in Young America, Ind., to the late Russell and Louise Unger.
She was retired from Enlisted Records and Evaluation Center at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind.
Her hobbies included needlecraft and gardening.
Survivors included her husband Terry W. Smith, New Albany, Ms., four children Jeff Hopkins and wife Kathy, Indianapolis, Ind., Brent Hopkins and wife Susan, New Palestine, Ind., Garnet Jordan and husband Clyde, Centerpoint, Ind., and Gregory Hopkins and wife Candy, Indianapolis, Ind., one stepdaughter Stephanie Cronin and husband Marc, Dothan, Ala., one brother James Unger and wife Sharon, Sedalia, Ind., and one sister Rebecca Mullen and husband Don, Walton, Ind.
Other survivors included 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Margaret Bennett, a brother William Unger and a daughter Cynthia Hopkins Crow.
Funeral services are planned for 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at Myers Chapel of Memories, 1502 North Lebanon Street, Lebanon, Ind., with Rev. Richard Burdett officiating.
Visitation will take place on Monday, July 2, from 4-8 p.m., at Myers Mortuary in Lebanon.
