Disappointed in festival opening event

Sunday, July 1, 2012

To the Editor:

Today (Wednesday, June 27) was supposed to be Special Rides for Special People at the park, to start at 1 p.m.

As some people know me, I do adult foster care, and two of my consumers went with their workshop to this special function.

I went over to the park around 1:15 p.m., today (Wednesday, June 27) to see how my guys were enjoying the festivities.

Needless to say, I was really disappointed in the carnival and the rotary this year.

Every year that my guys have went, they have had several rides opened and several games opened for the consumers to enjoy, and then they were given a choice between popcorn or cotton candy, and then given a small drink.

This year, there were only three rides opened up. They finally gave them popcorn, and a watered down drink, and there were never any games opened up.

I know for a fact that my special needs people really enjoyed the games to win some little prize. It was fun for them.

I went to the rotary shelter and they were in the process of setting it up, since (Wednesday) was the opening of the carnival, June 27, 2012.

The excuse for not having a better set up for the people with special needs is that it was a new carnival and they were trying to get set up for that night, and that the carnival people had just come in Monday night.

Sounds to me like somebody didn't plan very well this year.

Anyway, I know that Vigo, Clay, Parke and Putnam counties came (Wednesday).

I hope they were not as disappointed as I was today.
