Wool contest set for state fair

The 2012 edition of the "Indiana Make It with Wool Contest," will take place at the Indiana State Fair Saturday, Aug. 18.

The contest will take place in the Home and Family Arts Building with registration beginning at 9 a.m., and judging starting at 9:30.

Entrants will then participate in a fashion show at 1 p.m.

Placings and winners will be announced during that time.

Contestants may compete in one of four age categories, including:

* Preteens (12-under),

* Junior (13-16-years-old),

* Senior (17-24-years-old), and

* Adult (24-over).

The contestant's category is determined by the contestant's age as of Dec. 31, of the contest year.

Juniors, seniors and adults may enter in the following classes: One-piece outfit: Dress, jumper, outerwear jacket, coat or cape; two-piece outfit: Coat, jacket, cape, blouse/shirt, vest or sweater with dress, jumper skirt, pants or shorts; ensemble (three or more garments worn together at one time; coat, jacket, cape, blouse/shirt, vest and/or sweater with dress, jumper, skirt, pants or shorts.

Preteens may enter dress, jumper, skirt, pants, shorts, vest, sweater, blouse/shirt, jacket or a combination of garments.

All entries must be made from 100 percent wool or wool blend (minimum 60 percent wool or specialty wool fiber) for each fashion fabric or yarn used.

Specialty wool fibers include mohair, cashmere, alpaca, camel llama and vicuna.

To be eligible, a garment must have been completed after Jan. 1, 2012.

All entries must be postmarked by Aug. 1, 2012.

All are welcome to enter. Clothing projects in 4-H that comply with the rules of the contest may be entered and garments chosen for the Indiana State Fair 4-H exhibit may be released temporarily for entry in the contest. Members may choose to enter the contest after local judging.
